The Courses

IB Mathematics AA and AI

The IB offers two Mathematics courses, each at HL and SL. Tutoring should match the course you actually take, because the emphasis, question style and skills differ between them.

Analysis & Approaches (AA) leans into algebraic methods, calculus and abstract reasoning. It is typically taken by students who enjoy mathematical structure and are heading toward subjects like mathematics, engineering or the physical sciences.

Applications & Interpretation (AI) leans into statistics, modelling and using mathematics to solve practical problems, often with technology. It is typically taken by students interested in the social sciences, business or applied fields.

HL covers more content and goes deeper than SL within the same course, but neither course is universally harder than the other. The right choice depends on a student's strengths, interests and university requirements, and tutoring is built around whichever course and level they are actually studying.

IB Maths AA HL

Support for the full Analysis & Approaches HL course, including the deeper calculus, algebra and proof-based topics, with focus on multi-step problems and rigorous communication of reasoning.

IB Maths AA SL

Support built around the AA SL content, strengthening algebraic fluency and calculus fundamentals while working on the application and accuracy that the SL papers reward.

IB Maths AI HL

Support for the Applications & Interpretation HL course, covering modelling, statistics and the use of technology, with attention to the HL-level depth and the mathematical exploration.

IB Maths AI SL

Support focused on the AI SL content, helping students use mathematics and technology confidently in practical contexts and interpret results clearly under exam conditions.

What We Help With

IB Maths Tutoring for Your Specific Needs

The same 1-to-1 structure adapts to very different situations, because the focus shifts to match what each student needs from their Maths right now.

Building Strong Foundations

For students with gaps in algebra, functions, calculus, statistics or other prerequisite skills, we rebuild the underlying concepts so later topics become manageable again.

Catching Up

For students struggling to keep pace with school, we identify what was missed and work through it in a structured way until the current class material feels within reach.

Targeting a 6 or 7

For students who understand the material but lose marks through application, accuracy or exam technique, we focus on the specific habits that cost grades.

Exam Preparation

For students approaching mocks or final examinations, we combine targeted revision with timed practice and a clear plan for the topics that matter most.

IA Support

Guidance on understanding the requirements, developing ideas, interpreting the mathematics and improving the quality of the work. We do not write the IA for the student.

Past-Paper Practice

Targeted practice based on the question types and topics where the student needs the most work, with review of mistakes rather than simply counting questions completed.

Common Problems

Where IB Maths Students Often Struggle

These are recurring areas students bring to tutoring. They are not presented as the most common in any statistical sense, only as genuinely useful things to look out for.

Difficulty translating a word problem into mathematical steps
Weak algebraic manipulation that undermines later working
Difficulty connecting concepts across different topics
Calculus errors, particularly in differentiation and integration
Uncertainty with statistics and probability concepts
Discomfort with unfamiliar, exam-style question types
Losing marks despite knowing the underlying material
Poor time management under exam conditions
Difficulty interpreting command terms and what a question is asking
Difficulty deciding how to approach an unfamiliar question
Our Approach

How We Teach IB Maths

A four-stage loop that keeps tutoring focused on the marks you are actually losing in Mathematics.

01

Diagnose

Identify the topics, question types and underlying skills causing problems, so time is spent on what is actually holding the grade back.

02

Teach

Build the mathematical concept and the reasoning behind it, rather than memorising a method and hoping it appears on the paper.

03

Practice

Work through targeted IB-style questions and gradually increase difficulty, moving from familiar problems to unfamiliar ones.

04

Measure

Review errors and track which skills have become consistent, then shift the focus as strengths and weaknesses change.

Exam Preparation

IB Maths Exam Preparation

Practical preparation for IB Mathematics assessments, focused on the habits that turn understanding into marks.

Learn the concept before drilling questions, so practice builds on understanding rather than memorisation
Practice under timed conditions, not just for correctness but for the pace exams require
Review mistakes rather than simply counting questions completed
Learn how to communicate mathematical reasoning so working earns the marks it deserves
Become comfortable with unfamiliar problem types, not only the ones you have seen before
Use calculator technology appropriately and efficiently where it is permitted
Build consistency across different topics so a strong paper is not undermined by one weak area
Internal Assessment

IB Maths IA Support

The IA is a chance to show genuine engagement with mathematics. Tutoring helps the student make the most of it, while keeping the work their own.

For the IB Mathematics Internal Assessment, our role is to guide rather than to produce. We help students understand what the assessment is asking, develop a suitable mathematical idea and interpret the mathematics involved with care.

That includes:

  • Selecting and refining an appropriate mathematical idea
  • Understanding the mathematical reasoning behind the investigation
  • Organising the investigation in a clear, logical structure
  • Improving clarity and mathematical communication
  • Reviewing work and providing feedback at different stages
  • Helping the student understand the assessment criteria

Students retain responsibility for their own assessed work. We do not write, complete or produce the IA for a student; the guidance is there to help them produce their best honest work.

Who This Is For

IB Maths Tutoring for Every Starting Point

The same 1-to-1 structure serves very different students, because the focus shifts to match where each one is starting from.

Need to Catch Up

For students who have fallen behind, the focus is on closing gaps and rebuilding the foundations that later topics depend on.

Trying to Move From 5 to 6

For students who understand the basics but need stronger application and consistency, the focus is on accuracy and exam technique.

Targeting a 7

For students focused on the hardest questions, precision and exam performance, the focus is on the margins that separate a 6 from a 7.

Already Performing Strongly

For high-performing students who want to address specific weaknesses and maximise consistency across the whole paper.

The Tutoring Team

Experienced IB Maths Tutors

Our tutors bring substantial teaching experience, with many having 5-10+ years of experience, and work with students 1-to-1 on the specific course and level each student is studying.

Tutors are selected based on subject expertise, teaching ability and experience supporting students through the curriculum and its assessments.

Students are matched based on their curriculum, level, goals and specific needs, so the person teaching you is suited to what you are studying and where you want to get to.

Student Results
