Specialist 1-to-1 MYP Tutoring
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a five-year framework that builds understanding, inquiry and skills rather than just content recall. Our tutoring supports students through it.
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a five-year programme for students typically aged 11 to 16. It is built around eight subject groups, including Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design. Rather than focusing only on content, the MYP emphasises inquiry, conceptual understanding, application and the development of skills students use across subjects.
Alongside their subjects, MYP students take part in interdisciplinary learning that connects ideas across disciplines, and complete a long-term personal project that draws on the skills they have built. The programme is designed to develop students who can think critically, communicate clearly and learn independently.
Our MYP tutoring is 1-to-1 and built around the student in front of us: their year level, their subjects, the way their school delivers the programme, and the specific areas where they want support. Sessions focus on building understanding and skills, not on drilling generic questions.
Why MYP Tutoring Is Different
Effective MYP support is not about memorising content or drilling generic exam questions. It is about building the understanding and learning habits the programme rewards.
Effective MYP support is not simply memorising content, drilling generic exam questions, or moving mechanically through a textbook. The MYP rewards students who understand concepts, can apply them, and can explain their reasoning.
Instead, our tutoring focuses on understanding concepts, inquiry, applying knowledge, explaining reasoning, interpreting information, and communicating clearly. We help students connect ideas across contexts and become independent learners who can approach unfamiliar problems with confidence.
Because the MYP is built around skills and concepts rather than a single fixed syllabus, tutoring targets how a student thinks and works, not just what they can recall. The aim is to build understanding and habits that hold up as the work becomes more demanding.

Where MYP Students Often Struggle
These are examples of the kinds of issues students bring to tutoring, not statistical claims about what is most common.
How We Teach MYP
A four-stage loop built around how the MYP develops understanding — not a generic exam-drill cycle.
Understand
Build the underlying concept so it makes sense, not just so it can be recalled.
Explore
Ask questions, examine examples and investigate different approaches to the same idea.
Apply
Use the concept in problems, tasks and unfamiliar contexts.
Reflect
Review the student's work, identify gaps and improve how they approach the next task.
MYP Assessment Support
MYP assessment is broader than conventional examinations and can involve different forms of assessment depending on the school, subject and year level.
MYP assessment is broader than conventional examinations. It is criteria-based and can involve subject-specific school assessments, projects and longer-form work, inquiry and investigation, written responses, and presentations or other subject-specific tasks.
The precise assessment experience depends on the school, the subject and the year level. Not every MYP student takes external exams: optional MYP eAssessment is available in Year 5, and schools choose whether to participate.
Our tutoring helps students understand what their assessments ask of them and how to approach them well, whether that is a criteria-based task, an investigation, a written response or preparation for optional eAssessment. We support the work the student's school sets rather than replacing it.
Support Beyond Individual Subjects
The MYP includes interdisciplinary learning and a long-term personal project. Our role is to support the skills these require, not to complete them for the student.
The MYP also includes interdisciplinary learning, where students connect knowledge and methods across subjects, and a long-term personal project that draws on the skills they have built through the programme.
We do not write, complete or submit a student's personal project. Where students need general academic support — organising work, communicating clearly, or thinking through an idea — we can help with the underlying skills, but the project remains the student's own work.
Experienced MYP Tutors
Our tutors bring substantial teaching experience and work with MYP students 1-to-1, matched to the student's subject, year level and goals.
Our tutors bring substantial teaching experience, with many having 5-10+ years of experience, and work with students 1-to-1 on the areas where they need support.
Tutors are selected based on subject expertise, familiarity with the MYP framework, and teaching ability. Because the MYP is delivered differently from school to school, tutoring is built around how the student's school runs the programme.
Students are matched to a tutor based on their subject, year level and goals, so the person teaching you is suited to where you are and where you want to get to.
Student Progress
We are careful not to present numbers we cannot stand behind. Individual progress varies and depends on the work a student puts in. You can view broader HK Study Hub student progress on our results page.

Local and online tutoring
Tutoring is available in person and online, so students can fit sessions around school, activities and the demands of the programme.
Flexible around the school calendar
Whether it is a difficult unit, a criteria-based task or the move toward Year 5, the focus of tutoring shifts to match the pressure point a student is facing.
Aligned with how the school delivers the MYP
Because the MYP is delivered differently from school to school, tutoring follows how the student's school runs the programme rather than a single fixed template.
